Curiosity Gin Recipe 23

First released for Negroni Week 2017, Negroni Special is distilled from a malted barley base spirit with additional juniper, spice and orange citrus, then barrel rested in new French oak barrels and bottled at high strength. This gin is designed with a perfect Negroni in mind from start to finish and also works perfectly as a straight sipper or in many old style cocktails.

Recipe #23 is a botanical forward, contemporary style gin pairing a slightly sweeter malt base spirit with well rounded citrus, floral and oriental spice botanicals.

Distilled in-house starting with malted canterbury barley and finished with 11 botanicals including a generous helping of East Coast Manuka, fresh citrus and Otago lavender. A richly flavoured botanical gin that works beautifully in fruity and boozy cocktails

Serving suggestions: For a refreshing modern G&T serve with Elderflower tonic and sliced pink apple garnish. It’s signature cocktail is a modified French 75 with rosé bubbles, orange bitters and an orange twist. Perfect for any special occasion!

About Curiosity Gin Recipe 23

The Spirits Workshop began in late 2015 when four whisky lovers got together and bought a small still, curious to develop distinctly New Zealand spirits.

Our journey is to create, within our workshop, New Zealand’s most celebrated craft spirits. Quality food and beverages are always best enjoyed when there’s a story behind what you’re eating and drinking. We wondered what would it take to deliver our taste of New Zealand to the spirits world?

Yoyo, the original 50 litre pot still was our initial step and for the first three years it produced the first four Curiosity Gins in the range. Yoyo is still in action and in 2019 we acquired a 500 litre still which currently produces all our gin and whisky.

Antony is our Chief Gin Officer, Master Distiller and Managing Director. Stepping out of the corporate world after more than 20 years, he was able to combine his skills in chemistry, engineering and strategy to lead The Spirits Workshop on its journey.
